Summary

This grant offers a total of $600,000 in emergency response funding over a two‑biennium cycle, with individual awards of up to $50,000. It is open to organizations located in Minnesota (statewide), particularly those engaged in humanities, cultural, heritage, or community identity work. The intent is to assist communities when a significant event—such as a disaster, tragedy, or emergency—threatens cultural, artistic, or heritage assets, or causes trauma in underrepresented or vulnerable communities.

Eligible applicants are nonprofit organizations (or entities acting as nonprofit, such as those using fiscal agents) that are in good standing with IRS and meet internal requirements of the administering body. The grant is not targeted toward individuals or for‑profit businesses. Recipients should be organizations that already engage in preserving, celebrating, or teaching about culture, heritage, or diverse community identity, including work with historically underserved communities, Indigenous communities, immigrant communities, or veterans.

The funds may be used for projects that facilitate communal grieving, healing, memorial creation, recovery of cultural assets, and restoration of heritage initiatives following a disruptive event. The aim is to support timely responses rather than long-term general operations. The grant does not support expenses incurred prior to final grant agreements, major institutional overhead, out‑of‑state activities, or general fundraising. It’s specifically tailored to emergent, culturally meaningful interventions in response to crises or emergencies.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until all funds are expended or the deadline is reached. The grant is focused on one state, so organizations must be operating there or have a direct connection in that region. Overall, this grant is intended to strengthen resilience and cultural recovery in the face of sudden crises.
