Summary
This grant opportunity provides funding to support BIPOC-led and BIPOC-allied community-based organizations, Tribal nations, and their instrumentalities across the United States that are actively engaged in the food value chain. Funding is designed to strengthen organizational capacity, expand programmatic initiatives, and support innovative approaches to equitable food procurement. Eligible projects may include strengthening local and regional food systems, supporting farmers and distributors of color, developing partnerships, and advancing worker rights and equity.
Applicants are encouraged to demonstrate alignment with community-defined priorities, a commitment to equity, and potential for measurable impact. Only BIPOC-led and BIPOC-allied nonprofits, Tribal nations, or entities serving as project leads are eligible. Large institutions and organizations involved in food procurement are encouraged to partner with these eligible organizations to participate in the program. Small businesses and social enterprises may also participate via a nonprofit fiscal sponsor.
Grant funds may be used for general program operations, capacity-building initiatives, technical assistance, partnerships, and other activities that enhance organizational effectiveness and equity in the food system. Priority is given to initiatives that foster collaboration, build regional or Tribal networks, shift institutional practices, and expand market access for historically underserved food producers and distributors. Projects that demonstrate innovation, sustainability, and systemic impact are especially valued.
Grant cycles occur on a recurring basis, with awards varying based on project type, scale, and alignment with program priorities. Through this opportunity, eligible organizations can expand services, strengthen organizational infrastructure, and positively impact local and regional food systems while promoting equity and justice within institutional procurement practices.
