Grants to Nonprofits, Small Businesses and Other Organizations Improving Air Quality in Minnesota (USA)
GrantID: 6316
Grant Funding Amount Low: $5,000
Deadline: Ongoing
Grant Amount High: $500,000
Summary
This grant opportunity supports environmental improvement efforts in a Midwestern state, focusing on reducing long-term pollution and protecting community health. Funding is available for public entities and private facilities involved in solid waste, industrial operations, or stormwater and wastewater management. Nonprofit organizations, local governments, and publicly or privately operated waste systems are eligible. Individuals are not eligible to apply.
Grants of up to $125,000 are available per applicant. Of this amount, up to $75,000 may be used for planning activities, including identifying sources of pollutants and developing strategies to reduce them. Eligible projects might involve evaluating the use of safer chemicals, changing operational practices, or reducing the release of specific contaminants. Funds cannot be used for the construction of treatment facilities unless it directly supports pollutant reduction strategies.
Applicants must provide at least a 10% match, which can be either cash or in-kind contributions. Reimbursement is issued after approval of expenses. Special consideration is given to projects serving communities disproportionately affected by environmental harm, and the program encourages proposals that align with broader equity and environmental justice goals.
This opportunity is available to eligible organizations located within the state. Proposals are accepted until a mid-year deadline, such as late July, or until the total available funding—around $2 million—is fully allocated. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, and selected applicants are usually notified within a month. All funded work must be completed within a defined timeframe, typically no more than 18 months from the award date.
The grant supports long-term sustainability efforts by enabling facilities and local agencies to plan and implement pollutant reduction initiatives that benefit the environment and protect public health. Projects are expected to demonstrate measurable impact, especially in communities facing higher environmental burdens.
Organizations and individuals based in Minnesota who are engaged in Municipalities may be eligible to apply for this funding opportunity. To discover more grants that align with your mission and objectives, visit The Grant Portal and explore listings using the Search Grant tool.
